Experience + Knowledge​

Leadership is an integral part of the curriculum, but we also need to develop essential expedition skills, self-awareness and interpersonal skills, and build upon our knowledge of our environment. These subjects are integrated into the program, layered in while progressing towards a more complex understanding of topics.

Expedition Skills teach self-sufficiency in the outdoors, to confidently travel in wilderness settings, to assess and manage risks effectively.

Outdoor Living Skills: packing, tent setting, hygiene, nutrition, fire making, camp cooking, Leave No Trace

Safety Skills: first aid, environmental risks, weather preparedness, accident prevention and management

Navigation Skills: map reading, route planning, situational analysis, risk assessment, alternative routes


Expedition Behavior and interpersonal skills guide how we interact, communicate, cooperate, support and resolve problems.

Create a positive learning environment for feeling secure and safe physically, emotionally and psychologically.

Define roles and responsibilities, expectations, give and receive feedback, and resolve conflicts

Environmental Learning includes a range of topics in the natural, cultural and local environment relevant to our experience.

Natural Environment: geography, glaciers, weather, flora and fauna, hydrology and climate change.

Cultural Environment: pastoral and agricultural communities, historical sites dating back to Roman times.

Local Issues: impacts of climate change, wildlife management, local industry and tourism, energy and sustainability.
